A Luxury House with a Private Pool Adds Value
Few images offer more enticement when investing in a luxury house than an expansive swimming pool. A swimming pool adds an air of elegance and refinement to a property while also providing exercise opportunities for the entire family and a place to entertain guests.
There are plenty of pool servicing companies in the Bangkok area that spare you from the maintenance chores that are a regular part of pool ownership. But it’s wise for every homeowner to know how to take care of a pool for themselves.
The problem with neglecting a pool’s maintenance for a month or two is that the problems it creates can end up costing you more money and effort to rectify than maintaining the pool properly in the first place. We'll show you how easy it can be to maintain your pool, so you never allow it to reach the point of having to undergo major cleaning and rehabilitation.
A Healthy Swimming Pool Means a Healthy Family
Maintaining the water quality should be number one on your list of maintenance tasks. You might be surprised by the number of afflictions a poorly-maintained pool can cause. The crystal-clear water of an inviting-looking swimming pool can harbor many diseases or conditions that can harm your family and friends if it's not maintained properly. Improperly maintained pools are well-known sources of diarrhea, skin rashes, coughs and congestion, plus ear and eye problems. Children and people who take medicines that lower their immune systems are particularly vulnerable to these water-borne diseases and irritants.
If the chlorine or bromine used to keep the pool clear of germs is allowed to fall below the recommended level, your family will be at risk every time they swim or breathe in the misty air around the pool.
DIY Pool Care
Just because you're able to afford a luxury home, that doesn't mean you want to pay a pool company to service your pool. Many people enjoy cleaning the pool themselves. There is nothing overly complicated to learn, and the sweeping and skimming chores don't require a great deal of strength.
What’s most important about pool care is that it’s done regularly, ideally at least once a week. People who live in a home with surrounding trees may want to do it more often. Fallen leaves can discolor the water if left for too long, and a heavy accumulation of leaves can alter the chemical composition of the water.
Balancing the chemicals in your pool is the basis of all good pool care. Maintaining chemically balanced water cuts down on the amount of algae your pool will develop, and this reduces the scrubbing your pool walls will require from time to time.
To maintain your pool yourself you’ll need to invest in a set of tools and a supply of chemicals. Start with chlorine and an acid that allows you to balance the water’s PH. Store the chemicals in a shed or outdoor structure on your property as they can be hazardous if they happen to spring a leak, so you don't want to store them in or near the house.
Your tools should include a vacuum unit with a long plastic hose that you hook up to your pool’s filter. The filter provides the suction needed to vacuum the walls and bottom of the pool. The head of the vacuum unit attaches to a long pole to enable you to reach every section of the pool from the side. The pole also attaches to a brush for when you need to clean algae from the pool walls and bottom.
Your tools should also include a water test kit. This is a self-contained kit that supplies all the chemicals you need to test for arsenic, chlorine, copper, iron, lead, nitrates, and coliform bacteria in the pool water. Take some time reading the instruction manual and practice taking samples and correcting different types of water impurities.
When taking a water sample, be sure to reach about a meter below the water’s surface and not just sample the water right on the surface. Sunlight causes the breakdown of chlorine, so taking a sample from the surface can show artificially reduced levels of chlorine, causing you to over-chlorinate the water to compensate.
Get in the Habit of Pool Maintenance
Maintenance may take up to two hours for an average pool. If you get in the habit of doing it yourself, you’ll soon become practiced at it and will be able to enjoy a clean pool that is perfectly safe for your family to swim in all year round. Maintaining your pool also makes your pool surfaces, filter, and pumps last longer. Most tiles used in swimming pools are porous, and the cleaner your water is, the less chance your tiles will become permanently discolored.
Think of the pool as an additional investment that adds beauty and value to your luxury home in Crystal Solana. It provides enjoyment for the whole family and serves as a focal point for entertaining and social activities.
